| About Me: |
Denny Ray Mendenall comes from a rich heritage of country music. His dad, Paul, was a back up singer for George Jones, had numerous bands, over the years, and was a promoter and his Uncle Jack played “every stringed instrument know to man”, as Denny would say with an impish grin, “his specialty being the peddle steel guitar.” Raised in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, Denny, as a child, sold popcorn at a Porter Wagner Dolly Parton show. He also ran spotlight for a Tom T. Hall concert. Denny wrote his f ...moreirst song at the age of fourteen. Frustrated at his inability to communicate his songs to other musicians, he began teaching himself the guitar at the age of fifteen. Ernest Tubb’s lead guitar player actually taught Denny his first chord. Over the years, Denny has written shy of a hundred songs ranging from Country, Southern Rock and Contemporary Christian. For Denny, songwriting happens in “suddenlies.” “It never comes when I want it to,” says Denny, “it’s always when I’m workin’ on somethin’ else.” When inspiration hits, it’s not unusual for him to get three verses, a chorus and a bridge within fifteen minutes. Writing songs is like breathing for Denny. Denny put his music on hold for the last 15 years, concentrating on starting a home and family. Now, at 52 (going on 27), he feels its time to get things fired up again. Good luck, Denny.
