| About Me: |
I was born in Carrickfergus in 1953. When I was 9 all I wanted to be was an artist and writer, so I wrote and illustrated a story in a school jotter. I was given some oil paints by an uncle when I was 14 and started painting local scenes on bits of hardboard scrounged from a cousin who worked in a lumber yard. In 1971 I painted psychadellic murals in local boutiques and designed and made my own "hippy chique." I aimed at being somewhat unconventional in that respect. Wierd was cool! I went ...moreto Australia in 1973 and lived in Brisbane, where I sold paintings from the sun room of our collonial house, in Roma Street Forum and at Carina Gallery. I came back to UK, exhibited locally and sold artwork and copper relief pictures. Did some jewellry making and selling...etc. Wrote poetry for several nondescript publications such as Stylus Publications, BB Books, Blackburn, and others. I had short stories published in The Wrightlines (including a feature on a factual murder case, The Case Of The Naked Turk, and I had a story in an anthology they published called Belfast Tales). I did some ghost writing for American artist Patrick Duffy. Apart from that I had bits and pieces in print in Northern Irish newspapers, Take A Break etc. I went to Manchester October 1999, began the millennium in a new place, wrote for an internet psychology magazine called Zenzone amongst other publications, started a bear making business called Tir no N'og bears and sold artist bears at Bear Fairs and from home, wrote for a bear magazine called Teddy Bear Club International under my previous name, did some cartooning for Teddy Bear Times. I appeared on stage at the Contact Theatre in a live storytelling event ran by Commonword. I had a few features and short stories printed here and there including a short story in a publication called Hoola Hoops and Slinkies, which Commonword launched at a live reading in The Green Room Studio, Manchester as part of Manchester Poetry Festival, November 2002. When I was 50 I married a 25 year old Gambian, Ebrima, who I love to bits. He's football mad and a Manchester United fan. I came back to Carrickfergus 2006 and have been involved in charity work benefitting Gambia. This included providing village teams with football kits donated by various teams and running a tournament. The team wearing the strip donated by Ballymena FC won trophies donated by my brother Jim. I was also involved with an end of Ramadan clothing outreach in conjunction with Church of Christ, Serrekunda, amongst other things. Hundreds of poor families benefitted from this. I'm currently working on a series of portraits called Faces Of Africa which I hope to exhibit to raise funds for African charities, and I am always working on other commissioned artwork. I paint anything for anyone and post to anywhere in UK. I'm looking for another magazine to write for on a regular basis. I am also willing to provide private tuition in art or creative writing. Creative writing tutorials could be done by email. I've an Honours Degree in Psychology, a Teachers Diploma in I.T. skills and a Diploma in Private Investigation amongst other things like a certificate in Urban Surveillance and other interesting but obscure qualifications. I've done some investigating. Ambition ... to be somebody ... who ... suggestions on a postcard please! Queries about my artwork or writing to rosetta.jallow@yahoo.ie less |
