| About Me: |
Born and raised in Northern California(San Jose, Stockton)Now residing in Los Angeles,CA. Born in a lower working class neighborhood to a Mexican American mother and African American father, Bree began singing at age 11, writing songs at 12 and performing and winning talent competitions at 13. Growing up her inspiration and idols were Mariah Carey, TLC, No Doubt, Earth,Wind and Fire, Red Hot Chilly Peppers, Oasis, Christina Aguilerra, Prince, Babyface, amongst many, many more. She recalls every ...moreday after school, running home and singing and performing in her mirror for hours often dismissing her homework and other schooling obligations. "I totally felt it was a waste of time for me to be there all day when i could be writing or doing something constructive (by definition of me)that would really benefit me in the long run", she goes on laughing, "Graduation day came senior year and no one knew who the hell i was...they were all like, who is this chick we haven't seen her since the beginning of the school year!", although she animately insist that everyone get an education she goes on recollecting her past in a "glad that shit is over" kind of way. "I never showed up for class, I dont know how i even graduated..haha, i think i pulled alot of strings for that one."
This 21 year old singer/producer/songwriter knows that this industry is over saturated with gleamy eyed, beautiful, mediocre singing r&b songstresses, but she believes she has a few tricks up her sleeve that can set herself apart from every other tiny teen, half dressed diva. "I write, I produce, I perform like James Brown and Princes lovechild," she laughs, "That is when I really show my ass as they say, I become someone or something else. I write in a way that is mainstream appealing but also when i sit and write a song I try to write in a way that is not the typical approach, lyric or melody the rest of these writers would use."
Though no deal yet in the works for her when asked her response was, "The way the music business is going now days, I don't know if anyone will need one, with Myspace online communities and online distribution popping up, I don't know if its worth the time, I personally I love to perform but I am smart enough to know now that there is hardly any money in it and you have to wait for the fucking stars to align and pigs to fly before that will happen..haha.. so I am focused more on writing for other artist and building a resume of hits and then if I get the right offer, we can work it out." less |
