PROJECT: “FAULTS”
CASTING CALL CATEGORY: UNION/NON-UNION STUDENT FILM/KID AUDITIONS
LOCATION: PHILADELPHIA, PA
A character driven mockumentary. Nine fairly isolated and unfulfilled tenants of various types and generations, live in one apartment building. Each character reaches his/her own individual climax of conflict at the exact same moment, and is forced to resolve these issues through interactions with one another.
Shoot Dates: Mid December 2009 and early January 2010
(“Sisters,” “Stepmother,” and “Narcoleptic” must shoot one scene in November)
Audition Date: Saturday, October 17
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
THE ELDEST BOY
Leading male role, 11
Tall. Has a big smile. Somber. A foster child. Brother to the “Youngest Boy.” Steals for a living under the nonexistent supervision of his father. A wily young man who yearns for someone’s love and approval.
THE YOUNGEST BOY
Leading male role, 6
Another foster child. Believes stealing is part of a normal childhood. Antsy. Fidgety. Inquisitive.
THE BUS DRIVER
Leading male role, 56
Sagging skin. Graying hair.
An ashamed, lonely man. His only contribution to the world is public transportation. He slouches. (Must be comfortable wearing women’s garments).
THE OLD LADY
Leading female role, 82
Wide-eyed. Dry hair. A little overweight. Knows no line between reality and play. Dresses up in anything from tutus to tin foil. An accepting person with energy for two – she jumps around like a child (Must be very agile).
THE OLDER SISTER
Leading female role, 25
Attractive. Stiff. Driven. Honest. Bitter about the father card she was dealt at birth. She sits and stands very erect.
THE YOUNGER SISTER
Leading female role, 21
Pierced and tattooed. A spontaneous, flake. Sarcastic. Shares with her sister, an unresolved anger for their alcoholic father.
THE NARCOLEPTIC
Leading female role, 30
Lanky. Stringy hair. Big hands and feet. An imaginative woman with a dream of doing something fantastic. Suffers from a severe case of narcolepsy. She tilts her pelvis forward when she walks.
THE MOTHER
Leading female role, 47
Pudgy. Heavily make-upped. A proud Republican and stay-at-home mom/wife. Her son is in the service. Convinced she is content with her monotonous way of life. (Must be capable of showing dramatic levels of emotion).
THE ARTIST
Leading female role, 22
Messy appearance. Russian. Pale and boney. Covered in paint most of the time. Has an obsession with the guy next door – her artwork proves to be an extension of this obsession. She sits in a ball and always holds herself inwards. Suicidal. (Must be comfortable kissing another female).
THE GIRLFRIEND
Leading female role, 24
Beautiful. Long, flowing hair. Petit. Emotionally drained. A victim of abuse. Longs to salvage any remnants of her expressive, big-hearted, optimistic self (Must be comfortable kissing another female).
STEPMOM
Supporting female role, 45 – 55
Big chested. Loud. An alcoholic, grieving over her recently deceased husband. An art deco fan, who loves money, and loves to show it off. Jealous of her young, beautiful step children and their simple mother. She squawks instead of talking.
FAT MAN
Supporting male role, 35 – 50
Fat. Scruffy facial hair. The hair he does have on his head is unkempt. He is the foster father of the boys. A lazy, cheater who uses his children to steal. Loves beer and TV.
