I tried to give you the benefit of my experience, but I sense an attitude. Too damn busy to put up with that...

It's a tough industry. Find a niche and go for it. Develop a style and keep at it. Get some exposure, believe in youself and your ablilites and never stop learning and striving to get better.

LOL Grapphicdeano do you need an ego boost? I like your work, and think you have just as much of a chance of winning and making a living at this as any of us.

Who donated to me? Thanks, any little bit is good. Unlike most of you on here, I don't have a job (therefore no income and I don't collect). If I could somehow get to $20 fbs I'd love to get that Amazon gift card.

for instance, last year I donated a piece to PBS for an auction... raised $13,000 during the bidding war. Guess what I ask for a 16 x 20 now? comprende?

and (2) now that a piece has been auctioned, you come under the microscope of auctioneers who actually determine what you can ask for an individual piece.

and to most importantly, to the charities. Now that you're out there, donate art for silent auctions. which allows you two venues for more work (1) the ones who were underbid...

STARVING ARTIST. Personally I stopped making 6 figures in 2007, so even I'm taking a hit from the lack of consumer spending. But any artist worth their weight in salt (so to speak

OK young man, I'm going to give you the straight skinny. Artists either make it or they don't, regardless of the economy. I cannot believe you have never heard the expression...

Deano, a BFA and you don't know what a work in progress is (WIP)? for shame on you!

my comment was to you concerning your critique of another's work which is something we don't do a whole lot of here

Just out of my own curiosity, how old were you guys when you got a break into the industry? How long before you got a full-time job in graphic design?

GraphicDeano

I have not found a job yet in the graphic art industry. I haven't had much luck finding a job anywhere. The economy is in a depression! We are living in 1932 and no one wants to realize it.

What comment was "right on," Robert? Are you speaking of one of mine or Terry's? What are WIPs?

artistfors...

Your comment was "right on" although we deal with WIPs which would make your opinions much more effective. Love to hear your comments there.

Dean, I manage the Eons Art School Group on eons.com. You'll find artists of every caliber there. We can always use a "breath of fresh air".

Terry I wish I had known this. I just spent a month doing 33 pen and inks for an author who last week decided he wanted the illustrations to look like pencil sketches. took me 3 days on my light table...

artistfors...
2/5/2009 8:55 AM
And just a side question, since I mentioned "3 squares..." How are you all doing with the economy in this slump? Are you finding enough work?

the computer reference is why I insist my children know how to work with their hands.
