not a debate. Just answering questions that were posted and pointing out the original meaning of the theme. BTW your entry is nice and I have been voting because it is beautiful and looks awesome in B&W. Love the light and flow of the flag.

Lives lost in this or past wars is not the definition of the theme post. I am not denying the immensity of the loss, I am simply pointing out that once again the meaning of something is being lost.

but don't forget the meaning of the days we set aside to remember or celebrate...if it all gets jumbled up, what is the point? Why not have one big day and include christmas mothers day birthdays etc and so on, throw em all in together.

the 4th was set aside as a day of celebration not as a memorial of those who served our country. Yes you have the right to celebrate any part you want to....

independence is not necessarily freedom an vice versa. And physical death is not necessarily the only price that is paid. But that is still a memorial not a celebration.

"This is precisely the theme of THE FORFEIT OF FREEDOM, and a very good reason for casting your vote for it," he said, shamelessly promoting his own stuff.

V-Day & Memorial Day are more about recognizing those who sacrificed their lives IN DEFENSE OF OUR NATION’S sovereignty, whereas Independence Day celebrates our right as US citizens to PROCLAIM & PRESERVE INDIVIDUAL sovereignty.

imthinking-Lori's rebuttal of Aubrey's EL opine is positively spot-on! The true spirit of the 4th of July embodies the concept of RECLAIMING & MAINTAINING a stake in the individual freedom that is intrinsic in the life of every human being.

Under Her Glory is a great shot, and the title speaks for the way we live...FREE...under her glory.

it is when we became our own country and declared our independence from Britain. I am not bashing the photo, or any others here, just think it fits Memorial day or Veterans day theme much better.

EL does capture something, but focuses more on the sunset than the grave markers. A different angle, a bit more light, and it would have been a much different picture. The 4th isn't Memorial Day or Veterans Day....

Dee Dee, you have my vote for IMG_2425: excellent timing, perfect exposure. Almost looks like it's conveying a message, followed by an exclamation point. Just an interpretation, mind.

I'm not sure either. But I do find it funny that the ribbon she's holding still has the cardboard backing on it from hanging on the store rack!

missed the castle detail. reminds me of Close Encounters though. Not a bad thing, just brings to mind neat space crafts and out of town visitors. It's an interesting shot. Where was it taken?

Out of curiosity, can anyone tell that the fireworks photo I took in Italy is beside a castle? I forgot to point out the castle detail.

Message to all U.S. citizens: KNOW that by tacitly refusing to stand against the tyranny of excessive taxation & regulation, we become complicit in our own enslavement as the Fed forces our hand in the FORFEIT OF our individual FREEDOM.
