| About Me: |
Sysense started spinning when he was 16 at a little pub in Houston, Texas playing a lot 80's and early 90's dance music. Sysense at that time had no clue to what he was doing, but he just loved music and making people feel good.
The term beat-matching was something that he had heard of, but did not understand. So the term trainwreck was a prominent feature in his early sets. He was lucky enough to garner the friendship of a Dj that took him under his wing and taught him the mechanics of mixin ...moreg and the building of a proper set.
Sysense then started to listen to mix tapes and cds from the likes of Kimball Collins, Dj Icey, Danny Tenaglia, Tony DeVit, Sasha and Digweed and so forth to better his understanding and knowledge. Doing this allowed him to hear the art of mixing and the story music can tell in the process. From this point on Sysense practiced all the time and got better and eventually everything started to come together. Sysense then felt he had the skills to start playing raves and parties which allowed him to explore a larger genre of music styles from Drum & Bass, Trance, Progressive House, Ambient and many other styles.
Sysense finally got tired of the raves and parties and moved on into a more stable and less controversial aspect of bringing his message to the masses. This is when he got his first full on club residency that lasted for 5yrs. That gig was a dark after hours club that allowed Sysense to set a pace for the future and open many more doors and truly set the tone for what was to become. A true love and passion for a type of music that very few people rarely and truly understand.
Now fast forward close to 25yrs and things have progressed and changed a lot. Sysense still takes the same approach to music as he always has and that is "Don't be a music snob". He feels there is a lot of good music and art in the world and if you have a deaf ear or closed eye you might miss out on something that sets your soul on fire.
The good thing about him now is his system is more refined and smoother now but, he is still somewhat old school in many ways by today's standard. Sysense still uses turntables for most of his sets but, as of late he has incorporated the cd as the standard format.Sysense has also started to tinker around with dj software, but has yet to find the one that lets him really fine tune the aspects of using vinyl or cds.
Sysense loves the direction things are headed in the most part, but still has some reservations about all the automation that is going on with the likes of Ableton and other programs that do it all for you. The main concern he has is if it will keep the music true and prevent it from becoming too watered down, soulless and heartless.
The thing that Sysense sees as a big plus and downfall at the same time. He likes being able to get music right when he needs it via the Internet, but also misses the digging that he would do every week at the local record shop for hidden and lost gems.
25 yrs ago this form of instant distribution we have now was not readily available to the masses. This has given all artist instant access to millions of potential fans with a click of the mouse. He feels that it has helped us all to somewhat better communicate and improve our overall focus and performance and has helped his work and become more productive and been able to increase the overall talent pool ten times over.
Sysense is excited and looks forward to seeing what the future will bring and he feels that it can only become so much better than we could ever imagine if we could all just realize that we are all in this world together. None of us are better than the person next to us, no matter what status or how many possessions you hold in life. We all end our lives with same result no matter how hard we try too fight it and that is dead.
Sysense deeply feels that we all have a very deep love for music and art for it is what joins us and separates us. It can bring warmth to our hearts, chill to our souls, tears to our eyes and can help heal the deepest scars. It can make us laugh, joyful and maybe just maybe, help bring peace to our world. For this is something that we all must, must have. Just close your eyes for a second and imagine that if we didn't have music, art and creativity. What would the world look and sound like then? less |
