TheLedge

Life is an irony, A postponement of Death. Every fleeting moment Every insignificant breath, Leads me closer to the End And nearer to the edge, As I race unceasingly forward Towards the unseen ledge. As Eternity eludes me In this world as I know, Should I view impending Death As guarded friend or foe? Will the swift scythe of mortality Raze and ravage my dreams Or sever my bonds of internment Granting desired release? Should I quiver and cower in a corner Paralyzed in childish fear As I wait in awestruck silence For the grinning specter to appear? Should I run and flee across the land 'til I'm forced to turn and fight? Must I cast away my hopes and joys In moot protest to the fading light? To spend my time such seems great folly and a true waste of this life, indeed. My few precious seconds buying worry, Hoping the End brings relief. For each day should be seen as a gift in itself, And certainly these must be treasured. For when I can count my days no more By these choices will my life be measured. So Carpe Diem! I Must Cease the Day! And experience all this life has to offer! And when the time comes to pay my dues, May my light fill an expansive coffer. May I look back on my days with great fondness, For my toil, God, grant me this wage, Not a tear in my eye, but a smile on my face As I bow and I exit the Stage. Life is an irony, A postponement of death. Every fleeting moment Every insignificant breath, Leads us closer to the End And nearer to the edge, As we race unceasingly forward Towards the unseen ledge. The Ledge Robert A Hardin, Sr
