This is a trompe l'oeil painting, which is a style of painting that gives an illusion of photographic reality. The illusion centers around the fact that all the objects in the painting are exactly life-size and are positioned in a manner such that the viewer thinks the objects are actually three dimensional and can be touched as if they are real. Also notice the small tag attached to the revolver: it reads, 'This is not a gun,' which is a tribute to the great surrealist painter, Renee Magrite, who created the painting, 'This is not a Pipe.' Look it up.
