A Life Wielding Magic Prologue Chapter One: LifeandDeath As a child I always knew I had a special gift. A gift no one else had. I possessed the power to control the elements, the ability to alter time itself, even cure the sick and heal the wounded. But until I left the academy I didnt know how to use, or control these powers. Being a sorcerer in the land of Lorial is strictly forbidden without first going through the academy. Afterwards their life is spent serving in the war against the Dakreth. The Dakreth is a gruesome foe said to have spawned from the pits of the Black Trenches. They fight with handmade blades, axes, and spears. Theyre even said to use their teeth to tear apart their enemies. The Dakreth will stop at nothing to destroy their enemy. The kingdom of Artriel has been at war with the Dakreth for over one hundred years. After battle after battle, both sides fight vigilantly. The Dakreth are determined to kill King Marron, and destroy Artriel.King Marron has been ruling king for nearly thirty years. Even under the stress from the war he still made sure the kingdom was in order. After only seven years of acting king he was injured in the war and decided it was best for him, and the kingdom, to stay back and command. This is the story of Quinn, a slave-born sorcerer. These are the events that took place during his time as a child, in the academy, and graduation. He will be faced with the loss of loved ones, war, betrayal, and lies. Sire, I have bad news. The doctors face was hanging low. Father knew the situation was grim. What doctor? What has happened? Sire, Guinevere hasnt made it. His eyes swelled with tears as he took in the news. What news of the child? He expected the worst. The child lives. Father dropped to his knees, tears streaming down his face. I want to see my child. The doctor left and returned with a tiny, baby boy. What shall his name be milord? He thought for a moment, and responded, Quinn. Quinn is the perfect name for a perfect boy sire. Father smiled. Aye, Aye it is. Father shook the doctors hand and left. As father started the long journey home, the death of his lifelong love Guinevere, my mother, and how he was going to raise a newborn baby were running through his head. Father kept reassuring me, Everything is going to be just fine.I would always just smile and look on. My father, Shalott, was the local blacksmith in Teames. He also fought in the war alongside of Sir Tallan, the kings most trusted soldier. The king took a great liking in fathers work over the years, and showed him much respect. After the request of a new sword of Artriel, King Marron moved us into a house just below the castle where father had his own smithy.
