Description
Liberty and fredom can be taken for granted until you've lost them. My title for this image reflects my feeling upon arrival in the calm, open space of Death Valley, escaping for a few days the complications of modern life that I had left behind, including my pending divorce... if only for a few short days (thankfully the divorce was eventually completed).
This shot is a single exposure self portrait captured under moving, moonlit clouds, in the sand dunes in Death Valley National Park, California.
I triggered a bulb exposure, ran to the top of the dune, rotated a red-tipped flashlight around in a circle, then put the flashlight in my back pocket and had another photographer spotlight me briefly. The camera's sensor became the canvas for a spontaneous painting of lights and landscape, stillness and motion.
